Between the poles of romance and adventure

When the snow crunches under your boots, meadows and slopes sparkle like gemstones in the sun and snow-covered peaks create a magical natural backdrop, winter in Austria's hiking villages is at its most beautiful. The winter hiking offers know how to inspire both the romantics and the adventurers among the hikers.

Magical moments unplugged

A particularly mystical atmosphere unfolds in the snow-covered forests of the Dobratsch Nature Park in the Villach region. On a guided, unpowered night hike, all cell phones remain silent and all battery-operated lamps are switched off. Equipped only with historical lanterns, visitors make their way to the original Almgasthof Hundsmarhof, where a cozy campfire and a snack of regional delicacies await them. Along the route, surrounded by meditative silence and fresh mountain air, you can enjoy slowing down with all your senses.

A winter like in the old days

The Nassfeld-Pressegger See / Lesachtal region is one of those destinations where winter tourism is particularly important. On the one hand, it is a first-class ski resort, but nature lovers will also get their money's worth here. In Lesachtal, the most unspoilt valley in Europe, you enter a dreamy winter paradise where the hustle and bustle, mass tourism and loud après-ski events are consistently excluded. Instead, you can enjoy extensive snowshoe hikes to magnificent summit panoramas and ski tours in the pristine Carnic Alps and Lienz Dolomites.

Contemplative and cultural

Friends of the contemplative Advent season and authentic traditions are warmly recommended to visit the Wagrain-Kleinarland Filzmoos regions. Both destinations offer charming Advent markets with hot mulled wine, homemade traditional specialties and creative arts and crafts as well as cookie baking courses for children. In Wagrain, there is also the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Silent Night author Joseph Mohr on free cultural walks and in Filzmoos, an atmospheric torchlight walk leads past a life-size nativity scene and an oversized paper cut.

Action and adventure for the quiet time of the year

Things are a little more energetic in the Bregenzerwald . Snowshoe hikes followed by a toboggan run, exploration tours with the nature park ranger through the impressive wildlife of the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park, fast-paced husky sledge rides or exciting igloo overnight stays will make the hearts of all nature lovers beat faster who are looking for an adrenaline rush in winter.
