Elisabeth Berger lives an open concept of culture.

When Elisabeth Berger speaks, a load of pride flashes across her face. Not at all pushy, in fact rather modest. Nevertheless, you can clearly sense that she regards the profession of farmer as something highly honorable and loves the simple country life. Although the Bergers' Priglhof farm is a mountain farm, it can still be reached via a road that is easy to drive and free from vertigo. For over 50 years, not far from Villach (approx. 20 minutes by car from the center of the Drau town to the Bergers' farmhouse), the farm has not only been used for forestry and agriculture, but also for hosting guests. Just like Elisabeth's grandparents did. Back then (watch out!) they even shared their own bathroom with the farm guests. It's hard stuff at first glance, but on closer inspection it has something of the founding spirit of AirBnB. So why not. Cool grandparents.

"We show normal life. For over 50 years"

When it comes to "celebrity suitability", however, Elisabeth doesn't need to be fooled. Federal President Dr. Thomas Klestil visited the higher part of the Gegendtal with his Margot in 2002, as the farmer's wife remembers very well. After all, it's not every day that the head of state pays a personal visit to the farm. In Klestil's case, the Priglhof served as a setting for business interviews. So far, so good. The VIP density up here is nevertheless tolerable, to put it with a dash of irony. As a rule, it is not Putin, Merkel or Macron, but families who want to show their direct heirs the good, simple life, which, from a statistical point of view, is more than successful. How else could you explain the high number of regular guests? After all, you have to want to find the Priglhof.

"Zone for the development of potential"

"Children are allowed to shout and listen to loud music with us. They can play, just be without thinking too much," says Elisabeth Berger from the Urlaubs-D.N.A. The almost-all-inclusive approach makes it possible. After all, children are the real vacation makers. And as long as they have not yet reached their 14th birthday, farm vacations are usually really cool. In the following phases of life, it becomes abruptly less cool, but many would return to the farm when they have their own children at the latest. Because memories are the best marketing tool. Where our emotions stick, we take the images, smells and tastes with us for a long time. Deep down, the longing for Reindling and farmer's bread lies dormant. Not only for the Bergers, but also for the numerous colleagues who open their farms and guest beds to the world of travel. The farm's own farmhouse bread creation in particular is definitely worth protecting.

Whether it's for the bread or not. Some travelers indulge in a dual vacation passion. A week in the Adriatic with sun, sand and lots of beach is followed by a week at the Priglhof with cats, ponies and rabbits. If you are now visualizing Grado, Branzino and Pinot Grigio, then this is nothing sinful, but understandable. But please remember my words next time. Ideally just before you see the sign "Exit Villach - Ossiacher See" on the A10 (Tauernautobahn). I cannot guarantee that you will find friends. I also don't know whether the furnishings of the rooms and vacation apartments will appeal to you more than some designer suites between Umag and Pula. But what you will certainly find: Plenty of space. A strong analog signal in your life. Guaranteed.
