Wine was cultivated in Traisen valley as early as the Bronze Age, although the area did not become an official winegrowing region until 1995. But Lower Austria’s most diminutive vineyard district doesn’t play second fiddle to anyone: the small winegrowing villages of Inzersdorf, Getzersdorf, Reichersdorf and Nussdorf ob der Traisen cling to the scenic slopes of the Dunkelsteinerwald hills, surrounded entirely by vineyards. Further to the west, around Ober and Unterwölbling, is the area of the Traisental famed for its new wines and still home to numerous alleys lined with cellars.
