Mainly Riesling and the area’s typical Green Veltliner have been cultivated for centuries in the arable primary rock and loess soils of the region. Göttweig Abbey commands a stunning view of Rohrendorfer Berg, Wetterkreuz and across to Krustetten and Krems, the old city of wine and culture, directly opposite. Wine is ever-present in the area, and visitors will find vintage farmsteads and modern wineries dotted all around. The numerous taverns serving new wine are popular gathering points for guests and locals alike.
