Nestled between Vienna and Bratislava, full-bodied, strong wines flourish in the Pannonian microclimate of Carnuntum. The region takes its name from the Roman settlement whose ruins can still be explored today. Vineyard towns like Göttlesbrunn, Höflein or Prellenkirchen with their numerous cosy wine taverns have always been popular destinations for day-trippers, especially from the neighbouring Vienna. Full-bodied, mature red wines are the region’s calling card. So it is only natural that the main grapes cultivated in Carnuntum are Blue Zweigelt and Blue Frankish, although innumerable international red and white wine varieties flourish beautifully here as well.
